Will
Waterman founded and runs East Rim Expeditions. In 2001, Will
started his outdoor career with a 92-day expedition in Mexico where he
sea kayaked, sailed, and backpacked with 12 other individuals. This
sparked his passion for outdoor education, for leadership and
communication education, and for the environment and adventure.
After his life-changing experience in 2001, Will directed and
instructed for multiple outdoor education programs, in addition to
following a career as a journalist, where he has written multiple
articles for magazines and newspapers, including an article on
backcountry skiing in Northern Arizona for Arizona Highways Magazine and articles for the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS).
Will
has explored the Sea of Cortez in Mexico by kayak, sail, and rowboat
for numerous months, kayaked off the coast of British Columbia from
Bella Bella island to Vancouver Island, guided sea kayaking in Alaska,
backcountry skied around
the Western United states, and embarked on multiple other adventures
both private and paid.
Will
has a B.A. from Prescott College in Journalism and Outdoor Pursuits and
is certified as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT-B). Will also
volunteers on a small fire district in the mountains above Prescott,
Arizona.

I think the outdoors is a powerful conduit
for life-changing adventure. When combining the simplicity of the outdoors with the
complications of an expedition - such as necessity for leadership, communication,
respect of others and self - you really get into a wonderful blend of experiential
education that stays with a person for life.
I've always been a proponent of the Environment. For a long time, this
term carried baggage with it but now may be changing with the GREEN revolution.
Either way, I've always believed that if we want this world to be a decent place,
then we need to respect others and respect the thing that we are irrevocably
connected to - the environment.
